This was our first hotel in a series of stay-cations, and boy did the Clarendon Hotel set the bar for funky, fun, and thoughtful. From the outside it peaked our interest - there aren't many hotels you drive up to with a bright green and blue/white striped exterior. Then we saw the electric vehicle reserved spaces in the parking lot, which again is pretty cool. We walked over the circle drive asphalt of the typical gray-black mixed with surprising sparkles of blue rock, and into the lobby, which was already getting noisy from the crowd at Gallo Blanco. Our first favorite thing about the Clarendon is the front desk. The uber nice front desk lady not only offered us cold water bottles free of charge,

she also got us some of the complimentary goodies. Here's bonus point #1: Your $20 a night service fee for the room not only includes parking, gym access, and internet (like a lot of hotels), but also long distance calling, and the desk has free cold water bottles, nutrigrain bars, Kit-Kats, Reece's
Pieces, Otter Pops, and Snickers bars. Yes ladies - this hotel gives you chocolate as a thank you for staying there!

We stopped upstairs to set our stuff in the room. Bonus point #2: the room was not only different with it's bright red walls and sleek furniture, but the iPod stereo was on and set to tranquil music, and there was a wax burner scenting the air (it was by no way overpowering, at first we just thought it was a cool light fixture). A few other

interesting notes about the room: we loved that they had mini toothpastes (once we saw it we wondered why other hotels didn't do that too - who really uses shower caps any more?) and the shower had shampoo / conditioner / body wash dispensers on the wall much like bathroom soap dispensers where you can pump as much as you'll use. We like that Eco friendly, conservationist aspect to this Phoenix Hotel. The Clarendon Hotel even has reserved parking spaces for electric cars, complete with a plug in station.

But let's move on to the real reason this is one of our favorite Phoenix Hotels. Bonus Point #3: The Clarendon Hotel has a rockin' pool. "The Oasis" is open 6am - Midnight and is bordered by a 2 story tall, 60 foot wide water wall and surrounded with luxury loungers and outdoor couches on patches of AstroTurf. Dividing the pool and 50 person jacuzzi are

colorful stripes of Italian tile, much like the back splash behind the front desk. The pool has underwater speakers and during the day music and water features set an upbeat, relaxing setting for you to relax in the sun. At night, underwater stars on the bottom of the pool come out, giving it a soft blue glow, while the Jacuzzi changes from red to green to blue and bubbles and invites you to climb in with a glass of wine from Gallo Blanco. If you want to enjoy the pool without staying at the hotel, you can! For only $10 a person, you can escape and enjoy relaxing day with your girlfriends or loved ones.

Bonus Point #4: The rooftop sky deck. Open 6am - Midnight, with a bar open on it Friday and Saturday nights, this is one of the few social rooftops in Arizona. There is a great view of downtown and the surrounding mountains, and we highly recommend grabbing a drink from downstairs and watching one of those great Arizona sunsets. Or enjoy a cup of coffee from your in room Keurig

coffee maker as the sun comes up and the morning cool still lingers. But don't just take our word for it - next time you're in the Midtown area of Central and Indian School, stop in and do a walk through. Check out the roof, gawk at the pool, and have lunch in Gallo Blanco.... You'll be back for a longer stay soon!
