Daily Dose Restaurant
4020 N Scottsdale Rd
Scottsdale, AZ 85251
We heard about the Daily Dose on one of our other breakfast outings from a Facebook fan, and at the next opportunity, came to Old Town Scottsdale to see what the fuss was about. Daily Dose has been open since October 2009, and has developed quite a following of food lovers by offering delicious dishes most under $10, all under $12. On a Sunday morning, there was a bit of a wait, but they pacify patrons with a self serve coffee station so you can enjoy your cup of joe and sunshine on one of their wooden lounge chairs until your table opens up. Daily Dose has a comfortable atmosphere with some of the subtle Scottsdale flourishes like water served with a slice of cucumber, contemporary decor, and a "New American" menu that takes traditional American elements and adds a modern twist.
We love reading reviews on Yelp and Urbanspoon to get the inside scoop on what's delicious, but besides The Hangover Sandwhich ($9.99, Peppered bacon, turkey sausage, cheddar cheese, caramelized jalapeno & onion, harissa aioli & one egg your way. Served on sourdough bread with herb potato & fruit), it seemed like everyone was naming just about everything on the menu. So we decided to pick a savory and sweet dish to taste. The Crabby Omelet (half portion pictured right) caught our eye. Priced at $11.99 it was made with Blue crabmeat, red pepper & spinach finished with aged cheddar. One might not expect a crab cake on an omelet to work, but it was actually very tasty! We got it with the DD hash, a spicy blend of butternut squash and onions that completely outshined the herb potatoes. Some breakfast joints do savory well, but not sweet, and Daily Dose does great with both. We'd eat the Crabby again, but other delicacies like the Chorizo Omelet ($9.99), Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict ($10.99), and Hangover Sandwich ($9.99) might have to come first!
For our sweet dish, we had the Peanut Butter and Jelly Belgian Waffle ($8.99, Topped with banana, peanut butter & a house made berry compote). This new interpretation of the PB&J had the perfect amount of peanut butter, bananas, and fresh berry compote. It's absolutely something we'd choose again, but the Banana Bread French Toast ($9.99) and Cinnamon Apple Crunch Pancakes ($8.99) might tempt us away! Since Daily Dose does a nice job with both sweet and savory, out perfect combo would be sharing one of each with a friend. Our server was great about splitting the dishes and brought them out already separated on plates - which is why all our photos are half portions. We can't wait to come back and try lunch and dinner at Daily Dose, but until then, this is our new favorite breakfast place in south Scottsdale!
