Phoenix Fitness

The Phoenix fitness scene come alive outdoors from September to April. That's half the reason we endure blistering summers - for the rest of the year when we can get out and enjoy the valley. There's no shoveling sunshine! Here are some of the activities we love that keep us healthy:

Hiking - Around the valley we have several mountains that offer different levels of difficulty in their trails and incline. It's a great way to get outside and enjoy the beauty of the desert. Here are your hiking options along with our favorites and recommendations. Just remember, even during the cooler months, when you hike make sure you follow basic rules of the trail - drink and bring plenty of water, and let someone know what trail you'll be on. Safety First!

Runs/Walks - From October to April you can find 5K's, Fun Runs, and obstacle courses a few times a month that benefit a good cause and keep you motivated to train. We have the scoop on our favorite runs that are coming up all organized by month.

We have a special place in our hearts for races with obstacle courses built into the run, and the dirtier you get, the better! But most runs on our list are for a good cause, have live music, and many offer food or beer gardens after the race. Obviously, that's not the main reason to sign up, but if you think that all AZ races are serious affairs with people who train like crazy and can run 6 minute miles, there are some of those dedicated souls, but the majority of us just like the workout and fun environment!

Personal Trainer - We know you can go to a gym for fitness, but we have a favorite personal trainer, Mike Turner at Star Fitness, because he mixes the outdoors into his workouts and offers Saturday boot camps (PS - your first boot camp is completely free, the rest are only $10). For less than you'd pay at a large chain gym, you can stay healthy with their guidance so your body doesn't hold you back from trying all the fun things around Phoenix.

Adult Leagues - Phoenix has just about any adult sport league you may want to play. From Soccer to hockey, Roller Derby to kick ball, the fun of a team lets you make this workout as serious or as social as you need it to be. We have your options for leagues around the valley, and don't be afraid to try something new or walk on to a team of strangers!
