Why? Well it's easy - Wy~Knot? Wy~Knot Cafe (named after the owner's English Springer Spaniel "Wyatt") and shows you "why" every time you walk through the Coronado eatery's doors. Upon arrival, you'll notice a clean, homey feel with local art on the walls and a combination of tables and couches that double as a restaurant/poetry space. The cafe hosts a variety of events such as poetry readings, jazz, book signings and art expressions. See their Facebook Events page for their

upcoming scheduled community activities. We stumbled upon the cafe one Saturday morning during a mini summer stay-cation down at the Clarendon Hotel in Midtown. The Yelp reviews brought us in, but it's the food that will bring us back.

Although Wy~Knot is relatively new to the food scene, it made a splash almost upon opening it's doors with their Stuffed Cinnamon Swirl French Toast (pictured left $10). It was a 2011 Best French Toast Finalist and rivaled several of our favorite breakfast joints. Cut over 3 inches thick for each slice, this tasty treat is filled with vanilla cream cheese and topped with caramelized bananas, but don't be fooled - it isn't going to send you into a sugar coma. We love sharing meals and going for the sweet and savory combinations, so we also sampled the Prosciutto, Arugula and Goat Cheese Frittata ($10, Pictured Left). Anything with

Prosciutto has some salt content, and this one pairs very nicely with rich, creamy goat cheese and seasoned potatoes with onion, peppers and rosemary. We also sampled Wy~Knot's Molasses toast, a slightly sweet, chewier type of bread that made us reminisce about Christmas cookies. The breakfast menu consists of a few main categories: Frittatas, Burritos, Breakfast Sandwiches, French Toast/Pancakes, Parfaits, and Bagels. They also offer several options for vegetarian and vegan eaters. If you're in the Midtown area looking for a great little neighborhood joint with great food; or maybe you want to experience a community poetry reading or book signing, make sure to stop into Wy~Knot Cafe. They'll show you why better than we ever could!
