Phoenix Coyotes

The Phoenix Coyotes

have called Arizona home since 1996 when the Winnipeg Jets relocated to Phoenix and became the Coyotes. They play at Arena in the Westgate City Center. One of the unique things about being housed in the middle of retail and restaurants is the benefit of free parking. In fact, as you walk up to Westgate, it doesn't feel like a sports arena is nestled in it's midst. With over 17 restaurants, a 20 screen movie theater, retailers, and a plaza that usually holds live music, you walk into an almost carnival type atmosphere. The restaurants fill up quickly before a game, especially the Yard House, Gordon Biersch, and Saddle Ranch, so allow extra time for a wait. Inside Arena, most seats afford a good view of the ice, even when we got the nosebleed Groupon seats, you can still hear the slap of the stick, ring of the goal post, and crunch of the players against the glass. The arena seats between 17,125-19,000 people depending on the event, but it was skillfully designed in 2003 for each seat to be enjoyable. Even if you never watch hockey on TV, or don't know the rules and plays, a Phoenix Coyotes game is fun and a great way to mix up a "things to do" rut in your life. If you want to arm yourself with some hockey terminology, the Coyotes website gives you a hockey 101 under their fan zone heading.

The Coyotes strive to incorporate the community and have several nights honoring military, nurses, teachers, and home town heroes. In 2012, the Coyotes launched the Hard Way Heroes Fund where community donations recognize individuals in our community who have performed courageous acts or demonstrated noble qualities and send them to their hockey games. They aim to honor 17,125 individuals in their 2011-2012 season. (Which is the amount of people it takes to fill the stadium for one game) The hockey season typically starts in September with preseason and ends in June with playoffs, and with teams playing up to 4 times a week, there's really no excuse not to make it to a game at least once a year! Even if you've never been to a game and aren't sure you're going to like it - try it once. We guarantee you'll be back for another....
